A CENTURY LATER - THE DARR MINE BLAST
This is a part of the history of Western Pennsylvania that I knew nothing about, until I read this story this morning. I grew up not more than 10 miles from Rostraver Township. The Valley Independent has a story about the Darr Mine blast, which occurred on December 19, 1907. two hundred thirty nine men and teens were killed in the explosion. The Darr disaster claimed more lives than any mining accident in Pennsylvania history.
