PENNSYLVANIA - MY HOME SWEET HOME
As a native born Pennsylvanian, raised just 12 miles south of Pittsburgh, I always imagined someday moving away from the Keystone State. Wouldn't it be great to live near the ocean, with bright sunshine year round, no smog, no air pollution, no steel mills, no depressing closed factories.
Well, it took 54 years, but finally, we were able to retire and move to the Sunshine State. Do we miss Pennsylvania? Not really, we love the ocean, the sunshine, the walks on the beach, the golf, and the safeness and sparkling environment. But we miss family, friends, and some of the eccentricity that is Western Pennsylvania. We miss the hills, and the leaves turning colors in the fall. We miss the Steelers, and the feeling of oneness that only comes from home.
When we left Pittsburgh over eight years ago, we swore that we would never pine for the old homestead. We never have. But we never expected to miss the culture, the sports, and the uniqueness of Pennsylvania. I can't say that we miss it enough to want to move back home. That would not be true. But we do miss it enough to want to visit occasionally. Pennsylvania will always be home - just not Paradise.
